Projects
KELLY provides first quality electrical
construction and renovation projects throughout the metropolitan
Washington/Baltimore region, including portions of Virginia
as far south as Richmond and portions of Maryland as far
east as Easton. Current projects include:
1. Air Sovereignty Alert Fighter Alert Facility, Andrews Air Force Base (no photos)
Construction is currently underway on this project with design/builder John C. Grimberg Company. The new facility consists of a 4-bay aircraft shelter and attached quarters building for pilots and aircraft maintenance crews, to facilitate rapid response to protect the National Capital region. Foreman Kevin Carlisle and crew, under the guidance of Senior Project Manager Charlie Coffman, started this project in the spring of 2007. Kelly’s work includes an extensive telecomm duct bank/manhole system, 15-kv primary power, interior distribution/branch wiring, fire alarm system, and taxiway lighting. The facility is scheduled to open in the late summer of 2008.
2. Multi Mission Aircraft Test Facility at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD (no photos)
Phase 1 has been completed and Phase 2 is under way on this three phase project for design/builder Sauer Inc.. This project, the first of several that Kelly has under contract with Sauer, consists of renovations to multiple buildings and hangars at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River, as part of the Multi Mission Maritime Aircraft Test Facility for the U.S. Navy. Foreman JoRon Hawley and crew started on Phase 1 in late summer, 2007 and wrapped up that phase in March, 2008. Phase 2, now under way, is scheduled for completion in thiss summer. Phase 3 will follow and includes more interior renovation work to Hangar 305, and extensive underground utility relocation work so that the hangar apron area can be enlarged for this program.
3. Hangar 110 Renovations at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD (no photos)
Another design/build job for Sauer Inc., this project consists of interior renovations to the ‘lean-to’ office spaces in Hangar 110. It also includes an extensive upgrade to the incoming 15-kv primary power distribution and telecomm systems. Foreman Keith Swann and crew started on this project in the fall of 2007; their first task was to provide temporary power and telecomm for two large temporary office complexes (17 trailers in all!) to house the Hangar 110 staff and maintain operations while we renovate the permanent work spaces. Currently the temporary facilities are complete and are waiting for the Navy folks to move in, so the work inside of Hangar 110 can get underway in earnest.
4. Hawkeye Aircraft Test and Evaluation Facility at Patuxent Naval Air Station (no photos)
Kelly’s third design/build construction project with Sauer Inc. consists of a new 2-storey building with large open office areas, along with several conference/briefing rooms and two electronic test labs to serve the Navy’s aircraft research, development, testing and evaluation effort. This structure will replace several temporary buildings to be demolished once the new one is completed.
Senior Project Manager Charlie Coffman and Project Manager Shaun Gilligan are collaborating to guide all three of the Patx River design/build projects to successful completion.
5. North Campus Power Plant Renovation, College of William & Mary, Williamsburg, VA
Having just finished up a 3-year environmental upgrade project in Charlottesville, Virginia at University of Virginia’s tri-fuel Main Heating Plant under the expert guidance of foreman Jim Ashley, we have started another project with contractor Frank Lill and Son, Inc., at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. This one, smaller by far than the Charlottesville job, involves replacing all of the oil-fired boilers with new dual-fuel boilers, a complete mechanical and electrical replacement, and historically correct facelift for the building itself; a planned second phase will be construction of a chiller plant addition with ice-storage equipment.

6. Town of Indian Head Water Treatment Facility Improvements
The Indian Head Water Treatment Plant Upgrade, an ongoing project in it's final phase, involves the expansion and renovation of an aging municipal water treatment plant. One of the greatest challenges facing Foreman Lucas Blaser has been the necessity of keeping the plant in full operation during construction. The project is scheduled for completion by mid-summer, 2008.

2. Main Electric Building, Indian Head WTP
7. Joint Aircrew Escape Center, NSWC Indian Head Division (no photos)
At NSWC Indian Head Division, foreman Clint Perdue is spearheading Kelly’s work on the Joint Aircrew Escape Center, along with project manager Clancy March. This project involves three separate structures, with the most extensive lightning protection and grounding system Kelly has ever installed. Design/builder Whiting-Turner Construction has all building foundations and floor slabs in place, with steel and roofing in place on one structure at this time; this one will keep us busy through the summer.
8. Hirshhorn Museum of Modern Art, Structural Leaks Repair Project
The Hirshhorn Structural Leaks Project includes an expansion of the loading dock, replacement of an emergency generator, and upgrade of the building air handling system; Kelly is providing a new motor control center and variable frequency motor controllers. Foreman Howard Ricks and Project Manager Clancy March have the unique challenge of replacing equipment with minimum disturbance to normal building operating schedule, museum staff, and daily visitors.
